What is L-Theanine?
L-theanine is an amino acid that is found almost exclusively in green tea. It works by increasing levels of inhibitory neurotransmitters in the brain such as GABA, dopamine, glycine, and alpha brain waves.
By increasing the aforementioned neurotransmitters, L-Theanine’s benefits include a relaxed state of the brain, increased focus, enhanced mood, an elevated alertness and arousal, as well as a healthy stress response. The benefits are even greater when theanine is taken with caffeine. The effects further enhance focus, attention, and reaction time. Pairing these two has also shown improvements for cognitive support. This enhanced focus, attention and reaction time is crucial during a workout, as it helps push you through exercises and sets that you normally may be too mentally exhausted to finish.
Possible Side Effects:
So far, there have been no serious side effects noticed from taking L-theanine, making it a perfect addition to pre workout.
L-theanine has shown benefits with doses between 50 – 300 mg.
When to Take:
The best time to take L-theanine has been shown to be between 30 – 60 minutes before your training session. We have added 300mg of L-Theanine to our pre workout, Genesis, to help you #RiseAbove your goals and break through mental barriers!
