Ingredient of The Week: Beet Root Extract (Beta Vulgaris)

What is Beet Root Extract (Beta Vulgaris)?

As a derivative of sugar beets, beet (Beta Vulgaris) root extract has been shown to be one of the best natural sources of nitrates, which can be converted into nitric oxide (NO).

Due to its ability to enhance NO production, beet root extract has several benefits for bodybuilding and physical performance, such as increased muscular power and endurance, as well as vasodilation and lactic acid buffering. Beet root itself is also rich in betanin, which is a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants protect against damage caused by free radicals, which are produced during intense exercise.

Possible Side Effects:

Beet root is generally safe for consumption with no serious side effects. One side effect that has been noted, is that excess consumption of beet root may cause urine to become a pinkish color. This, however, is also harmless.

Recommended Dose:

Scientific studies have found effective doses of beet root extract to begin at 500 mg. Our pre workout, Genesis, contains 500 mg to help you on your fitness journey.

When to Take:

Because of its NO enhancing abilities and the benefits that are experienced as a result, beet root extract is popularly taken 20 – 30 minutes before workouts.

I’ve been hearing and reading quite a beer about the effects of beer extracts. I may take the plunge and see if I get any benefits from this.
